Michigan vs Texas A&M Prediction, Preview & Odds: NCAA Tournament Second Round

You can’t say Michigan isn’t battle tested.

It came oh-so-very-close to losing to UC San Diego, pulling through with a 68-65 win after a nearly disastrous second half.

Whatever - it doesn’t matter. NCAA Tournament wins don’t care where they came from.

Texas A&M dealt with a dangerous Yale team with the makeup to pull off the monster 13 over 4 upset, but everything held firm in an 80-71 win.

It doesn’t get more big program, big conference, SEC vs Big Ten than this. The winner gets either Auburn or Creighton.

Why Michigan Will Win

It doesn’t matter that much considering the Michigan bigs don’t always play up to their size, but Texas A&M doesn’t have the height.

That means they have to get to the rim and score inside, and that’s a problem. This is where the Michigan size will be a big deal.

Why Texas A&M Will Win

Michigan’s an odd team.

It has talent, there’s a little bit of depth, and it plays a nasty brand of defense, but it has a funky way of making everything so hard on itself.

It should’ve closed hard on UC San Diego, and it couldn’t do it until the final missed shot. It gives up runs, there’s a streakiness to the style, and if A&M can get on the right side of the momentum, it should be able to get up and use that D to clamp down.

It’ll help that it should own the free throw line. The Aggies take a ton of free throws, and Michigan commits a ton of fouls, and …

Michigan vs Texas A&M: Who Will Win?

Texas A&M is good enough to have beaten Auburn a few weeks ago, and flaky enough to finish 2-5 over the end of the SEC regular season - and that includes losses to Vanderbilt and Texas.

Michigan is good enough to have won the Big Ten Tournament title, and flaky enough to still be playing right now had that late Triton three gone down.

Michigan will shoot a wee bit better.
