Mike Krzyzewski inducted into US Olympic Hall of Fame
Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. For his contributions to basketball for Team USA, the honor became official Wednesday.

Coach K was already named into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 and the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. So now, make it a clean sweep for one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game.

Krzyzewski coached Team USA to three Gold Medals in 2008, ’12 and ’16 during his time as head coach. He was also the assistant coach for Team USA for Gold Medals in 1984 and ’92.

Over the course of his coaching career in college, Krzyzewski went 1,202-368 overall with Duke and Army. He went five NCAA Division 1 titles and made it to 13 Final Fours over the course of his career.

Krzyzewski also led Duke to 15 ACC Tournament titles, as well as 13 regular season crowns. He was a three-time Naismith College Coach of the Year winner in 1989, ’92 and ’99.

It’s been a few years since Coach K was last on the sideline. He opened up about his time away from coaching in the aftermath (circa October 2023) about whether or not he missed being on the sidelines.

“I don’t miss coaching,” Krzyzewski said. “I coached for 47 years, over 1600 games or more. The thing I miss is the interaction with young. I’ve been — you stay young by interacting with young and energetic and that’s the only thing I miss. And I do a lot of speaking and all that, but it’s not to a group of 18- to 23-year-old guys.”

And while he does miss being around college-aged players and staffers, Krzyzewski also acknowledged it was probably time to move on. And he’s glad to see his replacement, Jon Scheyer, has seemingly recaptured that energy.
