Alabama guard Mark Sears did not hear his name called during the 2025 NBA Draft. However, once the event was over, Sears was going to be one of the top names available. Now, the Crimson Tide legend has reportedly found a landing spot.

Sears will sign a two-way deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the news on Thursday night.

“Alabama’s Mark Sears, a first All-American, has agreed to a two-way NBA deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, sources tell ESPN,” Charania said via X.

One of the all-time greats in Tuscaloosa, Sears now heads back to the Midwest. His career began with the Ohio Bobcats before he decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Head coach Nate Oats saw an opportunity to bring Sears back to his home state and delivered.

Alabama reached new heights with Sears on the roster. Back in 2024, the Crimson Tide made a run to the Final Four, the first in program history. Sears then took over as the team’s primary scorer and nearly got back to college basketball’s main event. However, Alabama fell one game short and lost to Duke in the Elite Eight.

Sears still put up monster numbers during his time with the Crimson Tide. He averaged 17.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. This past season saw him named a first-team All-American by multiple services. In just a few years, Sears might have his jersey hanging in the rafters of Coleman Coliseum.

What NBA Draft experts are saying about Mark Sears

As Alabama was making its runs during the 2024-2025 season, On3’s James Fletcher put together a scouting report on Sears. You can read his full analysis here but toward the end, a comparison was provided to a current NBA star.

From the beginning, getting drafted was going to be a difficult challenge for Sears. However, the upside is enough that a team would take a chance on him. Turns out, the Bucks are who stepped up to the plate.

“The second round is still in reach, but lower numbers this season do nothing to help his case with scouts focusing on a problem he cannot solve,” Fletcher said. “The path for Sears may be narrower than for some, but it does not mean the door is closed. After all, the New York Knicks have put the franchise in the hands of a similarly built guard Jalen Brunson.”
