Cutdown day has passed and the Minnesota Vikings have named their initial 53-man roster. Within the roster, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah left a few surprises in the initial roster. Right now, there are going to be plenty of interesting storylines for the Vikings over the next week, as they work toward improving the roster.

One of the things the Vikings will end up doing is building out their practice squad. There are a lot of different ways to build out the practice squad. Do you want to go veteran heavy to help the roster immediately, bulk up on rookies who need a little extra development, or a combination of both?

Minnesota Vikings practice squad prediction

Overall, the Vikings have quite a few different options at their disposal when it comes to the practice squad, as described above. They will likely have a few veterans on the squad to maximize the Vikings' roster over the first few weeks, especially at wide receiver.

They will also have a 17th player with the International Pathway Player, giving them Oscar Chapman. Here is what we have predicted when it's all said and done, including players who are already on the roster.

  • QB Brett Rypien
  • RB Cam Akers
  • WR Lucky Jackson
  • WR Jeshaun Jones
  • WR Myles Price
  • TE Bryson Nesbit
  • TE Nick Vannett
  • OL Henry Byrd
  • OL Logan Brown
  • EDGE Gabe Murphy
  • EDGE Chaz Chambliss
  • DT Taki Taimani
  • ILB Austin Keys
  • CB Zemaiah Vaughn
  • P Oscar Chapman (roster exemption via International Pathway Program)
  • Outside signing
  • Outside signing

As you can see with the practice squad, it's both balanced and includes a mixture of veterans and young players. There are also players on the active roster currently in Chambliss, Price, and Keys. I don't expect them to stay on the roster, becuase the Vikings will find players to bring in to help them now versus in the future. I would expect at least three veterans to be added to the roster, which is why there are three of the UDFA signings included here.

How the practice squad is structured will tell us how the Vikings really feel about some of the youth on the roster.
