The 2025 edition of Major League Cricket (MLC), which runs from June 13 to July 14, is in full swing, with six teams battling across a record 34 matches.
Washington Freedom entered the season as defending champions, having clinched last year’s title with a dominant 96-run win over San Francisco Unicorns. But in a dramatic opening to this year’s campaign, it was the Unicorns who turned the tables, thrashing Freedom by 123 runs in a high-octane rematch.
This year’s teams include MI New York, Texas Super Kings, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Seattle Orcas, four of which are backed by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals, respectively.
MLC 2025 is being played in a double-round-robin format, where each team faces the others twice. A win earns two points, while an abandoned match fetches one. Ties are decided via Super Over.
As of June 16, San Francisco Unicorns lead the table with three wins from three, boasting a net run rate (NRR) of +2.842. Texas Super Kings follow with two wins, while Washington Freedom sit third with one win and a negative NRR of -1.544.
The top four will move into the playoffs, with the top two clashing in the Qualifier and the third and fourth battling in the Eliminator. The final will be held at Texas’s Grand Prairie Stadium, which also hosts all playoff games.
Matches are being played at the Oakland Coliseum, Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, and Grand Prairie Stadium.
