Most Lopsided College Football “Rivalries”

Can it really be called a rivalry if one side dominates the other? There are many examples of this across the country, but here are five that stand out, especially due to the level of recent dominance.

Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State

The Bedlam Series has been far from even during its 118-year history. The Sooners hold a 91-20-7 advantage, have never lost more than two in a row and between 1946 and 1994 amazingly only lost three games. If the Cowboys are looking for a positive, they have won two of the last three games, but even with that it only gives them six victories against the Sooners during this century.

Tennessee vs. Kentucky

The Vols and Wildcats have played 120 times, with Tennessee holding a 84-26-9 advantage. This included a 26-game winning streak from 1985 to 2010. Kentucky has won three games since 2011, but have lost the last four. The positive stretches for the Wildcats came from 1906 to 1919 when they went 7-3-2 and then from 1952 to 1960 when they went 6-1-1. However, their 13-4-3 record during these two brief stretches also makes the rest of the series even more lopsided (80-13-6).

Washington vs. Washington State

Through 116 games, the Huskies currently hold a 76-34-6 record. And as with the Oklahoma/Oklahoma State series, the Cougars have never won more than two games in a row. Washington State has had a few positive stretches, including winning four of five from 2004 to 2008, but since then the Huskies have won 12 of 15. The teams have split the last four, including a Cougars win in 2024.

Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

While the Bulldogs hold an overall 72-41-5 record, this series has been especially one-sided since the 1970’s. Since 1971, Georgia holds a 41-12 record, which includes winning the last seven games. It doesn’t help Georgia Tech that Georgia hasn’t been ranked lower than #7 during any of these last seven games.

Tennessee v. Vanderbilt

Tennessee’s performance against Vanderbilt deserves a second appearance on this list. The Vols hold a 79-32-5 overall record, but even that is misleading considering how the series began. Amazingly from 1892 to 1927, the Commodores had a 19-2-3 series advantage, which also means that the Vols hold a 77-13-2 record since 1928.
