Due to the weather conditions in East Lansing this weekend, Michigan State softball has announced schedule changes for the three-game series against Washington.
MSU game one against the Huskies was originally planned for 5:00 p.m. However, it was moved up two hours, starting at 3:00 p.m. Sunday's game has also been adjusted from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. But Saturday's game remains the same.
On Friday, in game one of the series, Michigan State softball suffered a 3-1 loss to the Washington Huskies.
The Spartans now hold a 13-24 record, while Washington sits at 30-12. Freshman Carsyn Cassady pitched three innings before sophomore Ava Mullen took over in the fourth. Mullen pitched 4.0 innings out of the bullpen, allowing three hits, no runs, and one strikeout. Sophomore Hannah Greer singled in the seventh, and Junior Kaelin Cash drew a walk for the Spartons.
Junior Hannah Hawley with a first lead-off home run in the fourth inning, marking her 11th homer of the season and 23rd of her career, tying in eighth place alongside her teammate Junior Britian Beshears in Spartans history.
Just three days before Friday's matchup against Washington, Spartans head coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley expressed her enthusiasm for the team's capability to lead in home runs. "Maybe two or three people on base, but to lead us off like that, to get them started, I thought it was really big," said McDonald-Kelley
The Spartans return to the field at Secchia Stadium Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for game two of the series against the Huskies.
