NBA-college hoops parlay makes Hump Day no chump day

The NFL franchise tag deadline was the main topic of discussion on Tuesday, but with a full slate of college basketball games and a few NBA games on Wednesday, we found the perfect parlay. So forget who got tagged for a few minutes and focus on how you can make money today. And that's by betting big on this basketball parlay.

The Mavericks still aren't gelling like most expected after acquiring Kyrie Irving before the NBA trade deadline, but we're confident Dallas takes care of business against the Pelicans on Wednesday. We won't go as far as calling the Pelicans pathetic, but without Zion Williamson, they kind of are. New Orleans is 14-22 without Williamson and has lost six of seven. Talk about a rough stretch.

Despite winning on Tuesday, the Mavs have dropped three of five. However, they are 2-0 against the Pelicans. And considering New Orleans continues to plummet, we can't pass up Dallas on the moneyline.

As for the final leg of our parlay, we're all about Seton Hall over DePaul in the first round of the Big East Tournament. Both teams are bad, but the Blue Demons are worse.

DePaul is really struggling and though Seton Hall has lost three straight, we'd be really surprised if the Pirates lose on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. We'd usually tell you to avoid betting big on a parlay with +149 odds, but with DePaul and New Orleans barely staying afloat, we're completely OK with it.

The Parlay: Dallas Mavericks (moneyline) and Seton Hall Pirates (moneyline) (+149 odds via FanDuel)

In the news ...

Ravens tag Lamar Jackson after failing to agree on long-term deal — The NFL's franchise tag deadline was Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, and after failing yet again to come to terms on a long-term deal, the Baltimore Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on quarterback Lamar Jackson. The non-exclusive tag allows Jackson to engage in contract talks with the other 31 NFL teams, but if he signs with another franchise, Baltimore has the right to match the offer to keep him or take two first-round picks as compensation. The Ravens are currently +250 to win the AFC North, +1300 to win the AFC and +2200 to win the Super Bowl after tagging Jackson.

Giants lock up Daniel Jones, tag Barkley — Quarterback Daniel Jones had a career year in 2022 with the New York Giants, and the former first-round pick was rewarded on Tuesday with a four-year, $160 million contract extension, including $82 million guaranteed. However, the Giants were unable to come to terms on a long-term contract extension with running back Saquon Barkley and placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him. The Giants, who finished 9-7-1 during the regular season and advanced to the NFC Divisional Round under first-year head coach Brian Daboll, are +450 to win the NFC East, +1400 to win the NFC and +4000 to win the Super Bowl.

Jets reportedly meeting with Aaron Rodgers — The New York Jets lost out to the New Orleans Saints on quarterback Derek Carr but that hasn't stopped them from trying to land another quarterback. Multiple sources say the Jets have had discussions with the Green Bay Packers about acquiring quarterback Aaron Rodgers via a trade and even flew out to California to speak personally with Rodgers. Rodgers has yet to publicly state whether or not he plans to play this season, wants to remain with the Packers or be traded. According to Kyle Newman at OddsChecker, Rodgers is -125 to go to the Jets, -120 to the Raiders and +950 to the Titans.
