Kyle Lowry is in line for his last big contract this offseason. The former NBA champion is 35 years old and nearing the end of his career. Despite this, Lowry has been playing at the highest level and putting up solid numbers over the last few seasons. Even up until the trade deadline last season, several teams were trying to secure a trade for Lowry.

But nothing materialized, and now Lowry will test the market in free agency. Several teams are expected to make a move for Lowry, especially after seeing how Chris Paul was able to elevate the Phoenix Suns to championship status. The market is now looking for a veteran point guard, and Lowry fits that billing very well.

In fact, two teams are battling it out for the signature of Lowry. The Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans are currently trying to sign Lowry to a big contract. The two teams see Lowry as the perfect player to help them take the next step in the team-building process.

The Pelicans and the Mavericks want Lowry to become the provider for their key young players in Zion Williamson and Luka Doncic respectively. Both teams are in the process of making cap space, with New Orleans executing the Steven Adams trade recently to help do that. Whereas the Mavericks haven't made any cap-clearing moves as of yet.

"Kyle Lowry has intense interest from Dallas...New Orleans cleared cap space with all indications to add Kyle Lowry as their Chris Paul."

For New Orleans, they are looking to bring in Lowry as the replacement for Lonzo Ball. Ball is expected to leave the Pelicans in free agency and join another team. So Lowry would be a solid replacement for Ball. Whereas, Lowry would help take the offensive load off of Luka Doncic, who was the primary attacking option for the Mavs last season and didn't have a reliable second option, especially during their first-round playoff series.
