As we quickly approach the undisputed super middleweight title fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) and Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) on September 13, Netflix, who will be streaming the event on their platform, has announced that the documentary Countdown: Canelo vs. Crawford will premiere on September 4.
Netflix has done these Countdown documentaries in the past for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano (2 and 3). The streaming company excels at capturing the behind-the-scenes for the fighters involved, but they do it more from a casual lens, as it is not made for the hardcore fans who follow the fighters. The hardcores will have likely seen or heard everything that they will cover, but for the casual audience, they will likely be in awe. The Netflix events are marketed towards casual sports fans to spark their interest in the event, so this documentary will check that box.
The Canelo-Crawford documentary likely won’t give us anything new, but there is hope that with the recent photo of Canelo in the gym with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, we will get some of that on the documentary. No additional details have been released on whether this will be one episode or multiple episodes. What we know for sure is that it premieres on September 4 and is available to put on “my list” so that you get a reminder as it premieres.
Per DraftKings SportsBook, Canelo Alvarez is the favorite at -185, and Terence Crawford is the underdog at +145.
Canelo Alvarez: TKO/KO +340; Decision +120
Draw: +1600
Terence Crawford: TKO/KO +850; Decision +210
