The original New Balance '574' has been referred to as New Balance's most "iconic, recognizable, and universally worn" shoe in their lineup, so it only made sense to see the team at New Balance Numeric eventually reimagine it for skateboarding.

"574, now for skateboarding," NB# mentioned on Instagram. "A heritage-inspired skate shoe that borrows elements from the classic 574, with a vulcanized rubber outsole for great board feel."

Swipe through the Insta post below for a proper first look at the latest 574 colorway, and let's talk about the history of this iconic shoe and why it works so well for skateboarding.

Although the shoe has been around for a while—Westgate actually added his personal touch to the shoe back in 2018, and NB# teamed up with Arrow & Beast on a special 574 collab in November 2024, just to mention a few—this timeless new colorway is already turning heads in 2025.

About the Original New Balance 574

"‘The most New Balance shoe ever’ says it all, right? No, actually. The 574 might be our unlikeliest icon. The 574 was built to be a reliable shoe that could do a lot of different things well rather than as a platform for revolutionary technology, or as a premium materials showcase. This unassuming, unpretentious versatility is exactly what launched the 574 into the ranks of all-time greats. As hybrid road/trail design built on a wider last than the previous generation’s narrow racing silhouettes, the 574 offered a uniquely versatile mix of new, different, uncomplicated, rugged, durable, and comfortable that was adopted as a closet staple across the globe. That’s why today, the 574 is synonymous with the boundary defying New Balance style, and worn by anyone."

I know that was a mouthful, but again, it makes sense to see a skate-ready version of the 574. It was originally designed as a hybrid shoe that can benefit basically all activities, so why not include skateboarding? A few tweaks, a few updates, and boom—the classics never fail.

And for all you skate shoe nerds out there (respect), let me save you a click—here are a few more key product details via the New Balance site:

  • Vulcanized rubber outsole for great board feel
  • Upper reinforced in high abrasion areas for added durability
  • Inspired by the design of the classic 574 running shoe

Keep an eye out at your local shop for this new NM574 colorway, or hit the NB# site to grab a pair. New Balance keeps proving they’re a force in skateboarding—the team is stacked, the shoes stay in demand, and honestly, it still feels like they’re just getting warmed up.
