New Orleans wrapped up another successful stint as Super Bowl hosts. The city is hoping to welcome back the NFL's biggest game in the not-so-distant future.
On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs inside the Caesars Superdome. One of the country's most famous party cities provided a lively atmosphere for everyone attending Super Bowl 59.
The Times-Picayune's Jeff Duncan wrote that this year's Super Bowl should help New Orleans land another one. According to Duncan, they're targeting 2031 for its next Big Game.
"I've covered 16 Super Bowls, including the last three in New Orleans, and this one was easily the best," Duncan wrote. "From start to finish, New Orleans crushed Super Bowl LIX."
The NFL has set locations for the next three years. Santa Clara, Los Angeles, and Atlanta will host in 2026, 2027, and 2028, respectively.
Mardi Gras starts early on Feb. 13, 2029, so the annual celebration will conflict with simultaneously hosting another huge event.
New Orleans has hosted 11 Super Bowls, including eight inside the Superdome. No stadium has witnessed more Super Bowls, and a 12th nod would move the city past Miami for the most hosting assignments.
"It was a great Super Bowl for us," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at a Monday press conference. "Eleven Super Bowls in the books here in New Orleans, and we look forward to Super Bowl (No.) 12 in New Orleans pretty soon."
Goodell said the Super Bowl came "at a perfect time" for New Orleans, which was reeling from a terrorist attack on New Year's Day.
"They lifted us up. Hopefully, we lifted them up and the world saw it," he said. "To see the culture and the strength of the people of New Orleans was really extraordinary."
New Orleans' 2031 aspiration may be feasible. Super Bowl 61 will take place at SoFi Stadium just five years after the new Inglewood venue hosted its first Super Bowl.
However, some new contenders could join the conversation by the time New Orleans is ready to host again. The Tennessee Titans plan to unveil a new stadium in Nashville for the 2027 season, and the Chicago Bears hope to create a new domed venue in 2028.
