The New York Knicks could pursue unrestricted free agent guard Malik Beasley, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Beasley is no longer a target of the federal gambling investigation conducted by the Eastern District of New York, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.

“Yet New York has also been cited as a team that could pursue Malik Beasley after ESPN reported Friday that Beasley is no longer the target of a federal gambling investigation,” Fischer wrote. “I’m told that the Knicks have maintained a level of interest in Beasley since the teams met in the first round of the playoffs in May and now the sharpshooter appears poised to become an unexpected late-summer free agent of note after the launch of the investigation just as free agency was about to commence led Detroit to scrap its plans to sign him to a new three-year, $42 million deal.”

Beasley played for the Detroit Pistons last season. He averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.1 blocks while shooting 43.0% from the field, 41.6% from beyond the arc and 67.9% from the free-throw line.

The Pistons lost to the Knicks in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in six games. Beasley averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.2 blocks in the series. The veteran shot 33.9% from 3.

Beasley, 28, has played for the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Pistons. He has career averages of 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.1 blocks in the NBA.

“Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation,” Beasley’s agent, Steve Haney, told ESPN. “An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence.”
