Optimism is surging that the Green Bay Packers have the pieces in place to make a run at a Super Bowl in 2025, but few pieces are bigger or more important to the franchise’s trajectory than quarterback Jordan Love.
General manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers have significantly bolstered Love’s supporting cast in recent seasons, and the 26-year-old signal caller has a wealth of ascending players around him, who might all be peaking at once this season.
Love figures to play a starring role in the Packers’ Super Bowl chances, and ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano believes Green Bay’s franchise quarterback could take home MVP.
“Remember also that the Packers had the youngest roster in the league last season,” Graziano points out, for ESPN. “And still finished in the top five in defensive EPA and defensive efficiency in the first year of a new defensive system. They drafted Matthew Golden in the first round to add a potential true No. 1 WR to Love’s already deep wide receiver corps. They also have depth at tight end, an impact running back in Josh Jacobs and a strong offensive line. And of their seven losses last season, six came to the Lions, Vikings and Eagles — the top three teams in the NFC.
“If the Packers can improve their performance against the league’s top contenders and Love can stay healthy, they are set up to win a lot of games this season. And if they do that, their quarterback is going to be a top MVP candidate.”
Be it through smart investments at the top of the NFL Draft or marquee signings at the top of the free agent market, the Packers have added some serious firepower to Love’s supporting cast.
Graziano’s optimism about Love, who passed for 3,389 yards with 25 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in his second season as the starter, echoes what those inside the league have been saying this summer about the Packers’ prospects and Love’s MVP chances.
“The Packers have a ton of weapons, and Jordan Love will have to play at [an MVP] level for them to be contenders,” an AFC scout told me recently.
