Nothing forces a team to pause and look inwards quite like a loss to the New York Jets. The Cleveland Browns find themselves in that spot after rookie Dillon Gabriel failed to deliver the W for them this past Sunday.
The big question on everyone's mind now is whether Gabriel's continued struggles will lead the Browns to take a look at their other prized rookie: Shedeur Sanders.
For one NFL insider, the answer could be coming a little sooner than some may think.
According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the Browns are not planning on giving over the reins to Sanders "just yet." But he added that it's "just a matter of time" before they do.
"Shedeur Sanders is not getting his number called just yet in Cleveland, but it's just a matter of time," Jones wrote this morning.

Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, built an impressive college résumé that spanned two programs and elevated his status as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in recent memory. He began his career at Jackson State University in 2021, where he won SWAC Freshman of the Year and later SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, helping lead the Tigers to back-to-back conference championships. After transferring to the University of Colorado in 2023 alongside his father, Sanders set multiple school passing records, including most passing yards in a season and highest completion percentage. Despite playing behind one of the most-sacked offensive lines in the FBS, he consistently demonstrated elite accuracy, composure, and leadership in high-pressure games.
The hype around Shedeur Sanders heading into the NFL stems from a blend of pedigree, poise, and production that he showed in college.
But the sample size that he had in the NFL preseason was mixed at best and pretty bad at some points. Despite being in a multi-way QB competition, has rarely even dressed on Sundays this season.
When will Shedeur Sanders finally see the field?
