Jon Gruden has had an incredible career in football. After a short playing career as a quarterback for the University of Dayton Flyers, Gruden, who is from Sandusky, Ohio, hung up the cleats to begin his life as a coach.
He was an assistant with the Tennessee Volunteers , Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and Pacific Tigers before getting his first opportunity in the NFL.
He spent 22 years as a coach in the league, as his teams had a cumulative record of 191-161-1. Of those 22 seasons, 15 of them came as a head coach. He was in charge of the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before coming back to the Raiders organization in Oakland and Las Vegas at the end of his tenure.
As a head coach, Gruden went 117-112 in the regular season and had a 5-4 playoff record, including a victory in the 2003 Super Bowl with Tampa Bay. His last coaching stint came with Las Vegas, which ended in 2021. In 2024, Gruden joined Barstool Sports as an NFL analyst and content creator.
The 62-year-old Gruden and his wife, Cindy, have three children together: Deuce, Michael and Jayson. On Sunday, Jon Gruden shared that Deuce Gruden, a powerlifter, broke a record for his weight class in Las Vegas.
“My son Deuce broke the powerlifting record last night for his weight class in Las Vegas! 483 pound bench press!” the caption read.
