NFL legend keeps it real about why former Ohio State star Marvin Harrison Jr. probably won’t be leaning on him much

Ohio State has been producing elite wide receivers for the NFL like no other college program in recent years. Emeka Egbuka was the most recent first-rounder, following Marvin Harrison Jr., who was selected in the first round the previous year.

Harrison Jr. was taken No. 4 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals, a franchise familiar with having top-tier wide receiver talent.

Arizona hopes Harrison Jr. will be their next great receiver, following in the footsteps of Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald recently spoke about supporting Harrison Jr. but explained why the young star might not need much guidance.

“If he ever needs anything, I told him I’m always available to help in any way I can,” Fitzgerald said. “But fortunately, he has a father who was a heck of a lot better than I was, so he can tap into him whenever he likes.”

Despite being the son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr., Harrison Jr. wasn’t a top recruit coming out of high school. It took a breakout career at Ohio State for him to carve out his own name. As a rookie with Arizona, he caught 62 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns. While many expected him to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in Year 1, he narrowly fell short of those high expectations.

Fitzgerald remains optimistic about Harrison Jr.’s future in Arizona. The former Buckeye is expected to be more comfortable in his second year and take another step forward.

“I saw a guy who made a lot of plays,” Fitzgerald said of Harrison Jr. “He did a really good job. When the ball came to him, he made his plays. He’s only going to continue to get better, so I’m excited to see his Year 2.”
