NFL pundit doubles down on Commanders hate with shocking 2025 prediction

The Washington Commanders' storybook 2024 season was enough to earn respect from the national media. For the most part, at least.

People from outside of D.C. were saying positive things about the Commanders. Washington had the darling rookie sensation quarterback. The home-run head coaching hire. From the top down, new people in new positions were paying major dividends. Everybody wanted to see good things happen to this long-suffering franchise.

Then, there was Adam Rank. While the rest of the football world was on board the hype train, the NFL.com analyst and unapologetic Chicago Bears fan was picking against the Commanders seemingly every week. He's doubling down with a prediction that's nothing short of disrespectful.

Adam Rank projects the Commanders to win just seven games in 2025

It should come as no surprise that Washington was slighted by Rank. But this seemed like a low blow even by his standards.

Rank has the Commanders finishing 7-10 and missing the playoffs. Among the teams he predicts Washington will lose to are the Bears, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants (on the road), and, most befuddlingly of all, at home to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3.

Some of the teams Rank has finishing with better records than the Commanders include the Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, and Carolina Panthers, who he predicts to win nine games.

Rank's explanation is sure to enrage the Commanders' fan base further.

As wild as the Commanders' run was last year, they are still just one season removed from being an NFL bottom-dweller. So, yes, while they are obviously better than they were, objective observers would concede that Washington seriously overachieved in 2024. That's not to say the team can't get better this season. But it feels like a course correction is looming.Adam Rank, NFL.com

Yes, the Commanders were bad two seasons ago. That was with a different coaching staff, a different front office, and a largely different roster.

Last year, they won 12 games and made the NFC Championship. On paper, they improved over the offseason. The 2023 campaign means nothing now; to suggest otherwise is laughable.

There are some red flags Washington must monitor to make last season's success sustainable. The team was extremely lucky in close games and avoided significant injuries. It's not a sure thing that it will happen again.

The Commanders' fortunes will also depend on how wide receiver Terry McLaurin's situation unfolds. In the worst-case scenario that he's traded, they could be in trouble.

But this is just ridiculous. Rank can keep hating — the Commanders will keep winning.
