Nearly a decade after his debut, Nicholas Pooran has announced his retirement from international cricket.

“This was very difficult, but I have thought long and hard about this,” Pooran said via an Instagram post.

The 29-year-old West Indies player served as a wicketkeeper-batter. He made his T20I debut in 2016 and ODI debut in 2019 before going on to play 106 T20Is and 61 ODIs.

Rishabh Pant, IPL teammate from LSG, wrote: “You have made your mark as a true teammate, friend, and an absolute powerhouse. I am proud to have shared the field with you. Congrats on everything you have done for West Indies cricket. Wishing you nothing but success on the road ahead. Respect always."

Pooran says he will continue to play for Lucknow Super Giants. He has also been appointed captain of MI New York for the upcoming 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season.

Cricket West Indies said: "We salute his achievements and thank him for the moments he has given fans across the region and beyond. We wish him all the very best in the next phase of his journey."

Nicholas leaves the game as the most capped West Indian in T20 Internationals with 106 matches and the leading T20I run scorer with 2,275 runs. He last played for West Indies in December 2024 in T20s against Bangladesh, but has not played an ODI since July 2023 and does not play Tests.
