Nick Sheridan on relationship with Ryan Grubb after handing back Alabama OC duties

When Kalen DeBoer first came over from Alabama, Ryan Grubb was fully expected to be calling plays for the offense that fall.

But after an unexpected opportunity to join the Seattle Seahawks, Grubb made the jump to the NFL which caused tight ends coach Nick Sheridan to be thrust into the offensive coordinator role for the Crimson Tide.

Just one year later, Grubb has returned to Tuscaloosa and Sheridan has returned the play calling duties as well after an up and down season.

However, DeBoer did not let Sheridan get away from Alabama as he now serves as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The shuffling and reshuffling of staff and responsibilities could be turbulent to some but not to Sheridan. Even though he isn’t completely running the show on offense this fall, his relationship with Grubb remains as strong as can be.

“Ryan Grubb is a tremendous coach,” Sheridan said to the media on Monday. “Even more importantly, he’s a very close friend of mine. Every opportunity I’ve had to work with Grubb has been awesome. Our relationship from my end is outstanding.”

Both Grubb and Sheridan have spent an extensive amount of time with each other dating back to their days at Washington where they were on DeBoer’s staff from 2022-23.

As the current quarterbacks coach, Sheridan will still play an integral part in developing whoever comes out on top of the battle between Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell this fall.
