The Texas Longhorns were easily the No. 1 TV draw in the Big 12. Now, the Horns have some idea what it takes to become the most-watched team in the SEC.
Nielsen, the company that measures TV audiences, announced Wednesday its first list of “conference champions” based on viewership during the 2024 regular season.
Georgia, the SEC champions on the field, also had the biggest average viewership every week with 8.6 million fans watching the Bulldogs play. It was the highest average total in the nation and the SEC, too.

Ohio State earned the No. 2 spot overall with an average of 6.8 million viewers, which was also the top spot in the Big Ten. Alabama checked in third with an average of 6.6 million viewers.
Texas was the fourth-most watched team each week with an average 6.4 million fans watching, according to Nielsen. The two most-watched games of the entire season were both against Georgia. The SEC championship game drew 16.6 million viewers and the Oct. 19 game had 13.19 million, according to ESPN.
Tennessee was fifth on the most-watched list with 5.4 million. In fact, the top-10 average viewership list was dominated with SEC teams.
Texas A&M (4.9 million), LSU (4.8 million), Kentucky (4.5 million) and Florida (4.3 million) took up spots No. 7 through No. 10. Michigan is the lone outlier in the top 10 at No. 6 with 5.2 million viewers.
“This season, over 154 billion minutes of college football have been watched live across Disney, FOX, NBCU and other networks,” according to Nielsen’s press release.
The data was tracked across the first 14 weeks of the regular season, but to qualify for the team rankings, teams had to appear in at least four games.
