The Tennessee Volunteers will continue with their "Smokey Grey" football uniform series in 2025, one that's changed substantially from year to year and has featured themes surrounding the history of the school and the state.

For fans wondering what those will look like this fall, the school revealed the 2025 version of the uniform on Thursday morning on social media.

The school issued a press release explaining the theme behind the uniforms:

Tennessee’s defining pillar of service and selfless leadership for more than 200 years, the “Volunteer Spirit” provides the inspiration behind the newest Nike Smokey Grey series football uniform that will honor the United States Armed Forces during the fall of 2025.

The “Volunteer Spirit” uniform also pays tribute to the ultimate legendary Volunteer, Davy Crockett, and was brought to life in collaboration with the Tennessee Military Department, the 134th Air Refueling Wing in East Tennessee and the Tennessee National Guard.

It's impossible to knock the theme behind the Nike uniforms at all, as there's nothing more inspiring in the Volunteer State than Davy Crockett himself and the legend he carved out, in addition to the obvious pride the state has in the nation's military history. The school notes that the fringed "Davy stripe" is featured on the helmet as well as on the shoulder pads. The return of the "Star Vols" logo is also a nice touch.

However, some Tennessee fans might debate the numerals and the two-tone black/grey jersey and pants colors.  They are certainly unique and draw immediate attention.  But they could end up being talking points among those who do not prefer the look of the uniform.

This is the fourth straight year the Vols have worn the "Smokey Grey" jerseys, which will be debuted on November 15 against New Mexico State in Tennessee's homecoming game.
