No. 15/8 Men’s and Women’s Swimming Dominate Kentucky

In an exciting matchup between cross-state rivals, the University of Louisville men’s and women’s swimming team dominated the University of Kentucky. The No. 8 Cardinals women won with a score of 210-90, while the No. 15-ranked men took home the victory with a score of 209.5-88.5.

The Cardinals had an impressive showing in multiple events, sweeping their opponents in several disciplines. Ilia Sibirtsev led the way in the distance events, while Denis Petrashov dominated the breaststroke. Lindsay Gizzi excelled in diving, Gabi Albiero showcased her skills in the butterfly, and Christiana Regenauer sprinted her way to victory. The Cardinals also won all four relays, with impressive performances from Ella Welch, Gabi Albiero, Dalton Lowe, Denis Petrashov, and Matias Santiso.

In the 200 medley relay, the Louisville women took the top two spots, narrowly missing an NCAA A-cut. The Cardinal men’s A-relay team secured the win in their event, while the B-relay team finished second.

Caroline Benda from Kentucky claimed victory in the women’s 1000 yard freestyle, while Ilia Sibirtsev set a pool and school record for Louisville in the men’s event. Summer Cardwell and Matias Santiso were standouts in the 200 freestyle, with both taking first place in their respective races.

Paige Hetrick and Jackson Millard showed their skills in the backstroke, while Ella Welch and Denis Petrashov displayed their dominance in the breaststroke. Gabi Albiero and Ryan Merani posted impressive times in the butterfly events.

In the sprint events, Christiana Regenauer and Dalton Lowe emerged victorious in the 50 freestyle for the Cardinal women and men, respectively.

The diving competition saw impressive performances from Sam Duncan of Kentucky and Che Stephens and Adam Sneden from Louisville. Lindsay Gizzi and Grace Leonard excelled on the springboards for the Cardinals.

In the 100 freestyle, the Louisville women took the top four spots, with Christiana Regenauer leading the way. Matias Santiso secured first place for the Cardinal men in the same event.

Grace Frericks from Kentucky narrowly edged out Rye Ulett from Louisville in the women’s 200 backstroke. Jackson Millard dominated the men’s event, finishing four seconds ahead of the field.

Kim Herkle claimed victory for the Cardinals in the women’s 200 breaststroke, while Denis Petrashov showcased his dominance once again in the men’s event.

Summer Cardwell ran away with the victory in the women’s 500 freestyle, while Ilia Sibirtsev secured his second distance win of the day for Louisville in the men’s event.

Gabi Albiero set a pool record in the women’s 100 butterfly, just edging out her teammate Christiana Regenauer. Dalton Lowe showcased his skills once again, setting a pool record in the men’s 100 butterfly.

Fernanda Celidonio led a 1-2-3-4 sweep for the Cardinals in the women’s 200 IM, while Ryan Merani claimed victory for Kentucky in the men’s event.

In the final events of the day, the Cardinals won both the women’s and men’s 400 free relays. The women’s A-relay team set a pool record, while the men’s teams secured first and second place finishes.
