KSI’s skills in boxing may have impressed many fans, but his recent appearance in a YouTube video revealed just how little he knows about grappling.
The musician-turned-boxer made headlines for his win over Logan Paul and held his own against Tommy Fury before a hand injury forced him to retire. He is now running Misfits Boxing, which puts on celebrity fights throughout the year.
He trains at London Shootfighters, where he picked up his well-known karate stance from Michael ‘Venom’ Page. KSI has also developed a strong relationship with middleweight prospect Norbert Novenyi Jr., who took him through some grappling basics in the video.
Dillon Danis has spent years challenging KSI to an MMA fight, after their two scheduled boxing matches never happened. But a recent video featuring his teammate Norbert Novenyi Jr might have given him something to think about.
Novenyi Jr, son of Olympic gold medalist wrestler Norbert Novenyi, grew up around the sport and quickly made a name for himself. He was one of Bellator’s top middleweight prospects before the promotion was absorbed by PFL and is now working towards a move to the UFC.
The video showed just how big the gap is. Even when KSI was given dominant positions like mount or side control, or even started with a choke already locked in, Novenyi handled each situation comfortably. In one drill, KSI managed to survive nearly 30 seconds by staying defensive but was otherwise submitted quickly in most attempts.
One drill stood out when the Hungarian fighter started on his back while KSI held mount position. Despite this advantage, it took only three seconds for him to escape and secure a leg lock finish.
After KSI’s win over Logan Paul, fans immediately wanted to see a fight with Jake. But while the American continued fighting through the pandemic and picking up knockout wins, their match-up always felt like it was just out of reach.
KSI eventually returned in 2022 under the Misfits Boxing banner, competing five times between summer 2022 and October 2023. But weight disagreements kept the two apart, and nothing materialised.
The Briton has since revealed that he turned down a recent $30 million offer to fight Paul, choosing instead to focus on his content creation career. While he hinted at a possible return during recent streams, this decision effectively signalled his retirement from boxing.
