It seems like every pair of recruiting eyes regarding Notre Dame football are locked on wide receiver Derek Meadows of Las Vegas.
The Bishop Gorman star stands 6-5, 200-pounds, and figures to be ready to see the playing field the second he steps on whichever college campus he ultimately chooses.
Meadows was set to announce his college commitment last week but decided to push it back a week to this Saturday. According to a 247Sports report, that decision seems to have meant good news for Notre Dame's chances.
But as you'll see later, there are reporters from another outlet that see it differently.
Meadows is currently set to announce his college commitment between Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan, Alabama, and Georgia on Saturday, July 20.
Derek Meadows is as close to being a five-star recruit as a player can be without actually having the ranking anywhere.
Notre Dame made Meadows a priority long ago and seemed to think it was in very good standing for the majority of that time.
Based on the video linked above, it certainly seems like Notre Dame has significantly upped their NIL game in its pursuit of Meadows and as a result, find themselves back in the best position of his final schools.
Perhaps its because of recent recruiting battles that ultimately ended in losses for Notre Dame, but a commitment would be nice for the current recruiting class but would it be a true commitment?
The case of Ivan Taylor, Notre Dame's top-ranked commitment in the 2025 class, who recently flipped to Michigan comes to mind.
Former five-star safety who remained committed to Notre Dame up until signing day a couple of years back only to choose Oregon before ultimately choosing Oklahoma also gets remembered.
With NIL clearly being a big part of this recruitment I'm not about to say that Notre Dame hasn't upped their game in that department, but there is plenty of time left for other programs to come back and do the same after a potential commitment.
The modern world of college football recruiting means that verbal and public commitments matter less than ever.
But it's also important to note that they do still matter.
For example - if Meadows announces his commitment to LSU on Saturday, which a few reporters from Rivals predicted Thursday, Notre Dame fans would certainly be down.
But would Notre Dame then be out of the running altogether? I have trouble thinking those same fans would think Notre Dame was done or that it wouldn't continue to recruit Meadows.
So by logic, it'd work the same way if Meadows announced Notre Dame and one was to view this from LSU's standpoint.
That's essentially a long-winded way of me saying the Derek Meadows commitment announcement is like a wedding invitation from a friend that you might not be entirely sold on working out.
Despite the obvious concerns about what ultimately happens, if there is going to be a party you can bet I at least want the invitation.
Or in the case of Derek Meadows, a commitment, which for the time would certainly help to quiet wide receiver recruiting concerns.
What losing Ivan Taylor to Michigan means to Notre Dame football recruiting in 2025

The Michigan State Spartans have landed 22 commitments in the 2026 recruiting class thus far. If you compare them to other classes, on average, one could see that they are ahead of par. One of the commits that they have landed is Tyren Wortham, who could be argued as one of the better wide receivers in the class when you look at his explosiveness and talent. He flipped to the Spartans from UCF following a successful visit to East Lansing. Georgia and many others were hopeful to land the prospect, while UCF held hope of keeping its diamond out of the hands of other teams. Wortham was just one elite-level wide receiver prospect that Michigan State landed. One of the players the Spartans landed before the commitment of Wortham is in-state wide receiver Samson Gash, the son of former NFL fullback Sam Gash. Samson Gash was targeted by many different coaches in his recruitment, including a late offer he received from the University of Alabama. While that is a trophy offer that anyone would hold high, the Spartans did enough to gain his commitment. While the Spartans have landed a large majority of their targets at the positions they want, it hasn't all been sunshine and rainbows. On Thursday, Michigan State missed out on its top target in the class. The prospect committed to a different school after pushing back his commitment from earlier in the month to the final day of July. That player was Salesi Moa, an elite prospect who recently was bumped up to a five-star 247Sports Composite rating and has solidified his name among the best. He announced his commitment to Tennessee. Moa is ranked the No. 1 class of 2026 prospect in Utah, the No. 2 ATH in his class and the No. 31 overall recruit in his class, per 247Sports Composite. Moa will likely be a two-way player at the next level, with his main position likely to be wide receiver. The prospect is the younger brother of Michigan State transfer Aisea Moa, a redshirt junior linebacker from BYU. The New York Yankees revamped their bullpen on Thursday, acquiring relievers Camilo Doval, David Bednar, and Jake Bird ahead of the 6 p.m. Trade Deadline. However, that spelled the end of Marcus Stroman's tenure with the team. With fellow pitchers Luis Gil (lat), Fernando Cruz (oblique), Mark Leiter Jr. (fibula), and Ryan Yarbrough (oblique) all on their way to returning, New York needed to clear a roster spot. The club cut Stroman on Friday, who has a 6.23 ERA over nine appearances this season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone gave his thoughts about Stroman before the team's bout with the Miami Marlins, via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. "The [public] perception around Stro, for us, did not meet the guy we got to be around for the last couple years," he said. "He's an awesome competitor. ... I feel like he's a guy I'll stay in touch with for the rest of our lives." Stroman signed a two-year deal with the Yankees in January 2024 after spending two seasons with the Chicago Cubs. The right-hander was 10-9 with a 4.31 ERA in 30 appearances last season. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Stroman No. 22 overall in the 2012 MLB Draft. The former Duke Blue Devil stayed with Toronto until 2019, when it dealt him to the New York Mets at the Trade Deadline. He then signed a two-year deal with the Cubs in December 2021. Stroman is a two-time All-Star and was the 2017 World Baseball Classic MVP.
The relationship between superstar pass-rusher Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys doesn't appear to be improving. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported earlier in the week that the two sides were moving backward in their contract negotiations. On Friday, Parsons posted on his social media that he had requested a trade out of Dallas. However, The Athletic's Dianna Russini claimed the Cowboys have "no intention" of trading him. Given this information, let's take a look at three landing spots that make the most sense for Parsons. Denver Broncos The Broncos allowed the third-fewest amount of points in 2024-25 (311 points), per ESPN stats, and already have one of the best defensive units in football. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw, safety Talanoa Hufanga and cornerback Jahdae Barron were added to the group this offseason, so why not continue to bolster? Denver owns all of its upcoming draft picks over the next three years, which could be used in a package to acquire Parsons. They are also set to have a ton of cap space available for 2026 and 2027, enabling them to put forth the contract offer that Parsons is seeking. With three more seasons of quarterback Bo Nix on a rookie deal, the Broncos could take advantage and go all in on the superstar pass-rusher, making a potent front seven that much more dangerous. Los Angeles Chargers The team that allowed even fewer points than the Broncos last season? The Chargers (301 points). Head coach Jim Harbaugh immediately righted the ship defensively upon his arrival, but there remain holes to fill. They've shed plenty of money in recent years, which included a former third-overall pick from 2016 in DE Joey Bosa. It's now time to use that cap space to bring in a difference maker on defense. Like Denver, Los Angeles holds all of its own draft picks from 2026 through 2028 and is capable of putting the pieces together to pry Parsons out of Dallas. Not only could the Chargers compensate the 26-year-old, but it's likely he would be fine with calling Los Angeles home. New England Patriots The Patriots currently have the most cap space in the NFL and are in a prime position to strike at any moment. It's been a difficult last few seasons in Foxborough, but the vibe has changed with new head coach Mike Vrabel taking over. The Patriots culture is back, and it's now up to the front office to provide Vrabel with more talent on both sides of the ball. New England is in desperate need of a game-breaking player. Parsons fits the mold perfectly. The Pats had a league-worst 28 sacks last season, per ESPN stats, so the pass rush could use some help. General manager Eliot Wolf is well-equipped with draft capital to feel comfortable making such a move.
Dallas Cowboys superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons dropped a trade request bombshell on Friday, making his demand clear to this team that he wants out. The Green Bay Packers are among the teams that can definitely get a boost on their stop unit with a player addition of Parsons’ caliber. But, it remains to be seen whether they would throw their hat into the ring and join the seemingly looming sweepstakes for the services of the former Penn State Nittany Lions star linebacker. Love tried to recruit Parsons to the Green Bay Packers—and the internet didn’t forget Given Parsons’ trade request, it’s just timely for the internet to walk back a little down memory lane and bring up how Packers quarterback Jordan Love attempted to recruit Parsons back in February. During an appearance on Parsons’ “The Edge” podcast, Love said that the player he wants Green Bay to sign was “sitting right next to me,” referring to the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker. Parsons responded by saying that he’s a “for-lifer.” That tune has surely changed several months later, with Parsons no longer having the desire to play for the Cowboys amid his desire for a huge extension contract. Parsons, who is just 26 years old, had his 2025 option worth $24 million picked up by the Cowboys in 2024. Through four years in the NFL, Parsons has accumulated 52.5 sacks with nine forced fumbles, nine passes defended and 256 combined tackles across 63 games.
