Notre Dame Depth Chart vs Miami

*** Redshirt freshman CJ Carr was named the starting quarterback last week after a battle with redshirt sophomore Kenny Minchey. Former starter Tyler Buchner is the third string quarterback.

*** It was surprising to see an "or" listed at the starting slot position between Jaden Greathouse and Will Pauling. The rest of the wide receiver depth chart was as expected, with redshirt freshman Micah Gilbert and redshirt sophomore KK Smith earning backup spots at X and Z.

*** Transfer Ty Washington (Arkansas) was listed as the second tight end, but redshirt freshman Jack Larsen is listed as an "or" for that position.

*** Redshirt freshman Guerby Lambert is listed as the first team right guard but there is an "or" listed with Sullivan Absher. Head coach Marcus Freeman said there's a chance both could play against Miami. Notre Dame's offensive line averages 6-5 and 311 pounds.

*** Running back Nolan James Jr. and wide receiver Elijah Burress are the only freshmen listed on the depth chart for the opener.

DEFENSE

*** Redshirt sophomore Boubacar Traore and sophomore Bryce Young were listed as starters at defensive end but veterans Josh Burnham and Junior Tuihalamaka are expected to be key parts of a deep rotation. Veterans Jordan Botelho was listed as cleared to play against Miami.

*** Veteran linebacker Jaylen Sneed is listed as the starting Will Linebacker, although sophomore Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa and redshirt sophomore Jaiden Ausberry will play a lot of snaps as part of a deep LB rotation.

*** Transfer Jalen Stroman (Virginia Tech) won the starting safety spot opposite veteran Adon Shuler. Stroman is listed as the starting field safety. It is expected that redshirt freshman Tae Johnson and junior Luke Talich will play as part of a deep rotation.

*** Linebacker Madden Faraimo, cornerback Dallas Golden, cornerback Mark Zackery IV, cornerback Cree Thomas and safety Ethan Long are the freshmen listed on the depth chart on defense.

SPECIAL TEAMS

*** Walk-on Marcello Diomede won the kickoff specialist job.
