Notre Dame’s standout cornerback, Leonard Moore, suffered a right ankle injury during the game against Texas A&M earlier this season. That injury forced him to leave the game, and since then, he has been on the sidelines and has missed the game against Purdue. His absence was deeply felt in that game as Notre Dame surrendered 30 points, which was not expected of them.
Now, Marcus Freeman has addressed Moore’s injury status on College GameDay ahead of their matchup with Arkansas. He said Leonard Moore is “getting close,” but “[Freeman] is not overly optimistic that he’s gonna be able to go” for this game. Given the critical nature of Moore’s injury, the Irish head coach has shown a cautious approach, even if Notre Dame desperately needs his contributions to the defense. Having done with some of their most difficult matchups, Notre Dame is still in a better spot and can afford to give Moore some rest as they approach the USC matchup.
