On Saturday during the 2024 All-American Bowl, Notre Dame received some big news when 2025 Chicago defensive end Christopher Burgess Jr. committed to the Irish over finalists Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama and LSU. There could be some more big news on the horizon with fellow 2025 Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School safety Ethan Long announcing that he will be announcing his commitment on Monday, January 8th at 5 PM eastern time.

The 6-2, 185-pound defensive back will be selected between a final list of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Long has been a player that Notre Dame has been pushing for some time now. Ever since he camped in South Bend last summer, the Connecticut native quickly became a priority recruit in the class for the Irish.

Notre Dame has seemingly been the front runner for some time, just waiting for Long to finally finalize a decision date. Barring something last minute, the Irish look to be the favorite to land Long on Monday.

As a junior, Long put together a tremendous season for Brunswick School. In nine games, he collected 56 total tackles, three interceptions and three more forced fumbles.

Long has seen a dramatic rise as a recruit since a stellar last offseason. He now ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 27 safety in the 2025 recruiting class by Rivals, holding offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan State, UCLA ,Pitt, Boston College and Duke among others.

Notre Dame has already received a commitment from elite Florida safety Ivan Taylor in the 2025 class. Long would continue to bolster what looks like a stellar group in the secondary next cycle.
