Notre Dame vs Georgia Sugar Bowl Kickoff Time Announced
Trevor Ruszkowski (Drayk Bowen), Brett Davis (Jalon Walker) - USA TODAY Sports

The Notre Dame-Georgia matchup in the Allstate Sugar Bowl has been moved to 4 p.m. ET on Thursday (Jan. 2) according to a release from the Sugar Bowl.

This game was scheduled to kick off at 8:45 p.m. ET on New Year's Day but was postponed a day due to the overnight attack on Bourbon Street. Upon announcing the one-day delay, the start time was going to remain at 8:45 p.m. ET. However, both teams as well as the College Football Playoff committee wanted the game played earlier in the day, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

The start time on New Year's Day made sense given the start times for the Peach Bowl (1 p.m. ET) and the Rose Bowl (5 p.m.). On Thursday, the only bowl game scheduled is the Gator Bowl, which is already in the prime-time window on ESPN. An earlier kick also helps with travel plans, costs and recovery times for the teams.

Whoever wins the Sugar Bowl matchup between Notre Dame and Georgia will have to play on Jan. 9 in the Orange Bowl against a Penn State team that played New Year's Eve.
