Notre Dame's pursuit of dynamic Lone Star pass catcher heating up very quickly after recent recruiting shakeup

Things are moving incredibly quick with the Notre Dame football staff and 2026 Waxahachie (Texas) High School wide receiver Kohen Brown. Formerly committed to the USC Trojans, Brown was offered by the Fighting Irish last week. He decided to reopen his recruitment just a couple days after that offer came.

The Texas speedster committed to the Trojans back in early April, but his recruitment has remained open even before he opted to decommit this past Friday. He is rated as a three-star player by every major recruiting platform currently. On the On3 Industry ranking, Brown currently sits as the No. 460 overall player, No. 73 wide receiver, and No. 62 player in the state of Texas for the 2026 recruiting class.

Despite those lower rankings, it hasn’t stopped a long list of impressive programs from pursuing the Texas standout. Some of Brown’s top offers right now include the Fighting Irish, USC, Ole Miss, Miami, Auburn, Nebraska, TCU, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Boston College, Michigan State, BYU, Cal, Baylor, Arizona, Kansas State, and Kansas among many others.

As a junior in 2024, Brown made a ton of plays for Waxahachie. In 13 games he played, the 5-11, 175-pound speedster managed to haul in 54 receptions for 1,084 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brown has a personal best 100-meter time of 10.68 seconds, and that was on full display during his breakout season.

Many speculated that Notre Dame would be a major player for Brown after he decommitted from Chad Bowden and the Trojans, and they were right. Brown announced that he had solidified an official visit to the program. He will be heading to South Bend for the first time on June 13-15.

This recruitment is far from over, but you have to like how Notre Dame is trending. They appear to be a clear front runner, and have the chance to close this one out down the stretch. Interest is clearly there, and it is only buoyed by his relationship with Irish running back commit Javian Osborne.
