On Thursday, ESPN College GameDay made the announcement we had long been expecting and dreading: Lee Corso is retiring.
The show announced today that Week 1 of the 2025 college football season will mark Coach Corso's final show before he calls it a career.
Corso's decades behind the desk also gave him a front row seat to tons of wins for the Ohio State Buckeyes, which he would often predict with his iconic "Headgear Selection" by donning the head for beloved Ohio State mascot Brutus Buckeye. Corso was an analyst during three of their national title wins.
Taking to X a short while ago, the Ohio State Football account paid homage to Coach Corso with this touching message:
"Enjoy Retirement Lee," the team said, sharing an Ohio buckeye emoji and several photos of Corso wearing the Brutus Buckeye headgear.

Corso rose to prominence as a college football coach at Louisville and Indiana, leading both programs to bowl games during his 15 years as a head coach.
Though he never beat the Buckeyes during his 10 years as head coach of the Hoosiers, he did lead Indiana to their first-ever bowl win in 1979. His 41 wins with the team still ranks third in school history.
But after finishing his coaching career in the mid-1980s, Corso went into broadcasting. He was a part of the first season of ESPN College GameDay in 1987 and has turned his Headgear Selection segment into a national football institution beloved by tens of millions of football games for generations.
As fitting as it might be for Corso to do a show for one of the schools that he coached, Ohio State seems like the most likely option given who they're facing in Week 1 next season.
The Buckeyes are set to host Texas on August 31 in a rematch of January's Cotton Bowl Classic.
If there were ever a time for Corso to break out the Brutus head one last time, it'd be at Ohio Stadium in the final week of his broadcast career.
Do you think College GameDay will go to the Ohio State-Texas game, or another one?
