Ohio State Legend Bobby Carpenter Was Asked If He'd Fire Ryan Day

Ohio State lost to Michigan again on Saturday.

Despite being a massive favorite, Ohio State couldn't overcome its biggest rival and lost by three, 13-10. This result prompted some chants from Ohio State fans and alumni to fire head coach Ryan Day, who is 1-4 against Michigan since becoming the head coach.

Former Buckeyes linebacker Bobby Carpenter has heard those cries for Day's job but he isn't sure he can get fully on board with it since there's a chance the Buckeyes make a deep run in the College Football Playoff, assuming they get in.

“I don’t know if I can get all the way there Greeny (Mike Greenberg), because there’s so many things that have changed here in the last couple seasons,” Carpenter said on ESPN's Get Up, via On3. “I think he needs to have a strong showing. I think Paul is right. It needs to be akin to that 2022 season, where they played Georgia in the Peach Bowl and handled themselves very well. They were a field goal away from winning that game and potentially going to a national championship. But there’s so many moving parts."

"I think that this team has a lot of juice, and we talked about them having one of the best rosters. I think that they can go make a deep run, especially if they get one of those early home games.”

The Buckeyes will still likely get in the CFP but they cost themselves a shot at an auto-bid with the loss to the Wolverines. Had they won, they would've played the Oregon Ducks in the Big Ten Championship Game for a shot to get the auto-bid into the CFP.

If the Buckeyes don't go deep in the CFP, there's a real chance that Day could find himself in a different job next season.
