Oklahoma City’s beloved City Edition jersey is making its return to the 2025-26 season. It is one of the slickest and aesthetic uniforms by a team so far, and now it’s back on the court this time. Bringing back a classic jersey representing the city is great for Oklahoma City, especially as it chases its second title after the 2025 run.
The City Edition is giving historic vibes for the Thunder. On top of that, it boasts the proud culture of OKC as a whole. At this point, one can say that the return of the said jersey is very timely and inspiring to begin with. Now that it has sent a strong message, the title defense is very much alive.
So what makes the return of the City Edition jersey significant for OKC? It’s merely a Thunder uniform, and every team has an alternative like they do. It’s safe to say that it is holding a bigger value for the team. On top of that, it is also showing how deeply rooted the Thunder is in its home.
The Thunder have a rich history beyond basketball. Oklahoma is a proud state on its own, scarred by the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995. Still, the community has boasted growth, resilience, and stability over the years. The arrival of the NBA in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 saw potential for an NBA team there. Three years later, the Thunder were born.
Since then, Oklahoma City has become a beacon of hope and a proud basketball team. The culmination of a championship earlier this year has propelled it to even greater heights. The return of the OKC City Edition jersey came at the perfect time to demonstrate how the team has become an integral part of Oklahoma culture.
After all, the title has paid tribute to the journey that it took them to become a successful team. Now, the new Thunder uniform arrives as proof of their ever-growing dedication to the city’s rising status as a home of NBA champions.
Fans may see a huge resemblance to the 2018-19 season jersey of the same name. Unveiled Thursday, August 21st, this Thunder uniform is seen as a throwback jersey. It’s set to make its debut in the 2025-26 season on Nov. 19 against the Sacramento Kings. This comes along with the similarly designed City Edition court at the Paycom Center, in celebration of Native American Heritage Night.
The Thunder have had a total of eight City Edition uniforms since the NBA switched to Nike as its jersey provider. While most of them are memorable, this particular design inspired by Oklahoma’s Native American roots has stood out well. Most notably, it was worn by Hamidou Diallo in his SlamDunk Contest win in 2019.

Each OKC City Edition uniform has paid tribute to a certain aspect of Oklahoma City’s culture. Still, it has been quite a surprise that the team finally brought back a favorite among many fans, and now it comes with a bigger significance with their title defense coming in.
While it has a lot of meanings—being on display at the First Americans Museum—nothing has more basketball significance than its symbol of growth. Being a city that is on the move, and fueled by the growing legacy of Thunder basketball, this jersey shows that OKC is ever growing and learning as well.

That was cemented by their rising dominance in the league in the past few years. Oklahoma City is learning to be a champion for the first time, and the new threads say a lot about it. It is an adjustment to be a winner in the NBA, and yet they are still carving stories of the franchise in the years to come. After all, the Thunder legacy is just getting underway with their current traction.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is entering his prime. Jalen Williams is developing his star-level game, and Chet Holmgren is rising back into his prominent level of play. The Thunder are basically gearing up with a boatload of draft picks and swaps for the next few years. That’s indeed a welcome sight for a team weaving its legacy at this point.
It is going to be special to see this new threads in the season. It holds a cultural significance to Oklahoma City, and the team celebrates that well. Now more than ever, it is a great way to celebrate their written greatness in the league—maybe even a uniform to wear in rivalry clashes.
Starting December 5th, the Thunder will host City Nights in each Friday home game. On that note, the team will don the OKC City Edition jersey and will play on the court of the same design.
