Oklahoma Sooners Top Recruit David Stone Takes Shot at Texas Longhorns

When pressed about the idea of Texas providing a bigger NIL deal, Stone shut down the idea of going anywhere else, specifically Texas. He replied, “The numbers were never really a thing for me. I turned down some crazy numbers. I’m letting people know right now that I didn’t come here for the money or anything like that; I came here simply for the love of OU and Sooner Nation. I really appreciate the love I get from the school and the supporters from all across the country. The money was never a thing.”

Football programs continue to court players with monetary incentives in the new era of NIL deals (name, image, and likeness). Stone likely commanded a hefty price tag from the Sooners, but the five-star prospect states that money was not a deciding factor in his ultimate decision to head to Norman. 

Stone continued, “If Texas tried to quadruple it, I still wouldn’t pick Texas. The hatred for them… no amount of money in the world could make me want to go to that school, I can’t lie.” 

Oklahoma Football: Dominate Early Signing Day

The Sooners did well on early signing day, inking 27 top recruits, per the On3 Sports database. IMG Academy defensive end David Stone headlined the group as the Sooners’ lone five-star commit. Additionally, the Sooners signed two top four-star prospects, Taylor Tatum and Zion Kearney. Tatum and Kearney are two of the best offensive playmakers from the state of Texas, adding insult to injury regarding their relationship with the Texas Longhorns.
