The Oklahoma Sooners have been cleaning up their 2026 class very well , and that could only get better. Their 2027 class, though, is No. 1 in the country and has the potential to finish that way or at least near that. Not to mention, some recruits in the class are decommitting from the schools they originally committed to. 2027 edge rusher Taven Epps was committed to the Texas Longhorns, and the Sooners could get him.

Sooners have legit shot at getting Taven Epps after decomitting from Texas

Epps is a four-star edge rusher in the 2027 class who is a top 100 player in the country based on Rivals' rankings. He's 6'4, 235 pounds, and the No. 12 edge rusher in the country. He's also the No. 10 player in the state of California. Now, he's not necessarily cutting Texas out of the loop, but he's opening his recruitment back up.

“I just think I made a premature decision when I was young,” Epps told Rivals. “Me and my mom, my dad, and I sat down and we decided to open up to other schools and not just focus on one because I have a long way to go and I want to take other visits to see what school is best for me. They’re [Texas] not out of it. I still have so much love with them.”

However, the Sooners are a team to be on the lookout for when it comes to Epps' recruitment. The last tea he took a visit with was the Sooners on October 25. That visit is what could have been the deciding factor in his decision to decommit from Texas, for all we know.

Right now, UCLA, USC, Arizona, and Washington seem to be other teams that he is interested in. So, it's clear that he has an interest in staying somewhat close to home on the West Coast. However, don't count out Jim Nagy and the Sooners.
