Oklahoma State Softball Notebook: Weekend Review (3/17)

Oklahoma State went sweeping this weekend.

The Cowgirls took all three games in the series against UCF, moving them to 5-1 in conference play this season. 

Overall, the Cowgirls improve to 24-3 on the season, while UCF falls to 14-11 and 2-4 in conference play. 

Friday: 2-0 Win Over UCF  

OSU got things going on Friday with a close victory over the Knights in game one of the series. 

It was a pitchers duel from the start, but it was Lexi Kilfoyl who tamed the Knights on Friday. 

She got the start and delivered, giving up zero runs on four hits with six strikeouts in a complete-game shut out over UCF. 

UCF pitcher Sarah Wills was dominant as well, giving up two runs on three hits, three walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work. 

OSU got the scoring started in the first inning as Caroline Wang hit a shot up the middle, scoring Tallen Edwards and putting OSU up 1-0. 

After that, both teams went silent on offense, but OSU's Karli Godwin changed that narrative in the sixth inning. 

Godwin led off the Cowgirls in the sixth, and she came through, crushing a solo home run and increasing the lead to 2-0. 

Kilfoyl would shut the door in the seventh and secure game one of the series for OSU. 

Saturday: 10-4 Win Over UCF 

Wang and Micaela Wark both collected home runs on Saturday as the Cowgirls secured the series with the victory. 

OSU was up 4-0 going into the fifth inning, but UCF stormed back and scored four runs in the fifth, including two-run home runs from Stormy Kotzelnick and Jasmine Williams to tie the game up heading into the sixth. 

The Cowgirls turned it up a notch in the sixth, scoring six runs in the inning and prevailing over the Knights on Saturday. 

Kyra Aycock got the start in the circle, and she held UCF at bay, giving up four runs on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched. 

Ivy Rosenberry came in late in the fourth to save Aycock, and she did just that, giving up zero runs on one hit, one walk and one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings of work. 

With a 4-4 ballgame going into the sixth, the Cowgirls did damage and then some in the inning. 

After getting bases loaded to start the inning, Katie Lott came up and hit a liner into left field, scoring Taylor Anderson and putting OSU up 5-4. 

Wills then threw a wild pitch, allowing Rosie Davis to score and make it 6-4. 

After scoring two more in the inning, Edwards continued her stellar day, hitting a RBI-double to the wall and scoring Macy Graf to put OSU up 9-4. 

The Cowgirls would get one more in the sixth, and Rosenberry would hold UCF in the seventh, securing the series over the Knights. 

Sunday: 6-4 Win Over UCF 

Godwin would hit a two-run bomb in the first inning as the Cowgirls swept the Knights on Sunday. 

Rosenberry got the start, and she was consistent, giving up one run on five hits with one strikeout in four innings pitched. 

Kilfoyl would come in and replace Rosenberry in the fifth, and UCF gave her some trouble. She gave up three runs on five hits, one walk and two strikeouts in three innings of work. 

After Godwin's homer made it 2-0 early, OSU would put up three runs in the second inning, including Claire Timm hitting a RBI-single and scoring Edwards to make it 5-0. 

UCF would crawl back into the contest as Sona Halajian would launch a three-run home run over the wall in left field, cutting the OSU lead to 5-4. 

Wark would secure the victory in the sixth for Oklahoma State, hitting a RBI-double down the left field line and scoring Davis to make it 6-4. 

Kilfoyl would shut the door in the seventh, collecting the series-sweep over UCF. 

OSU prepares for a mid-week contest on Tuesday, when it takes on Tulsa at 5 p.m. at Collins Family Softball Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+.
