Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin Calls Out College Football Playoff System, Has Major Suggestion

As the 2025 college football season approaches, teams across the country are finalizing their rosters through the transfer portal and shaping their lineups for the fall.

It seems that the SEC has some buzz around the conference, and Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is still upset with his team missing the College Football Playoff last December.

Ole Miss was the third team out of the playoff ranking after finishing their regular season with a 9-3 record.

They were instead matched up with Duke in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and dominated the game, finishing with a final score of 52-20.

After finishing their season in dominant fashion, Lane Kiffin took to national television to express his team's frustrations.

"They wanted to send a statement to a lot of people. They felt left out of something and disrespected," he said after the bowl game win.

Fast forward to today, the Ole Miss head coach still seems livid about how the College Football Playoff is structured, even after the first year of the new 12-team bracket.

"There's still flaws in every system," Kiffin said, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

It seems that Kiffin felt left out last season, and he also expressed what kind of system he would prefer.

"The best system would be 16, and it would be the 16 best," the Ole Miss coach mentioned, according to On3 Sports' Andy Staples.

Although he has continued to voice his opinion about the system, it has only been in place for one season.

It will take more than a single complaint to prompt changes to something that plays such a significant role in the sport.
