While the Ole Miss football team fell short of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024, head coach Lane Kiffin put together one of the most talented teams in program history. The Rebels had a school-record 11 players invited to the NFL combine this year and touted multiple prospects on both sides of the ball.
One of those prospects was lesser-known wide receiver Jordan Watkins, who impressed NFL scouts with his athletic ability at the combine. On Thursday, ESPN's Matt Miller released a mock draft in which Watkins is selected in the sixth-round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, pairing him with former Rebels wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.
Metcalf signed a $150 million contract with the Steelers after being traded from the Seattle Seahawks at the beginning of March. He spent three seasons at Ole Miss from 2016 to 2018 and landed himself among the greatest Rebels wide receivers after an impressive career in Oxford.
Watkins spent the last three years at Ole Miss after spending his first two seasons at Louisville. As a Rebel, he improved his production each season, culminating in a 49-catch, 906-yard, nine-touchdown campaign in 2024. He led the SEC in receiving touchdowns as a fifth-year senior and is more than ready to join an NFL wide receiver room with great players like Metcalf and George Pickens.
