Packers Make Intriguing WR Move That Should Please Deion Sanders

The Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room is already crowded, but it seems like general manager Brian Gutekunst feels there is always room for more.

The Packers have signed undrafted wide receiver Will Sheppard, who played for Deion Sanders at Colorado and caught 48 passes for 621 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. Rob Demovsky of ESPN reported the news.

Sheppard actually began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt in 2020 and spent four seasons with the Commodores, establishing himself as one of the team’s top threats as soon as his sophomore campaign. His best year came in 2022, when he hauled in 60 receptions for 776 yards and nine scores.

At 6-foot-3 and around 200 pounds, Sheppard is certainly an intriguing prospect, and there is no doubt that Green Bay could use another big-bodied target with Christian Watson recovering from a torn ACL.

Of course, whether or not Sheppard will actually have a serious chance of making the team remains to be seen. The Packers already had Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Watson, Dontayvion Wicks and Bo Melton in their receiving corps before the NFL Draft, and then they selected Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

Sheppard may actually have a legitimate opportunity considering that Watson will be out to begin the season and he could potentially fit that void. But it will obviously be an uphill battle for Sheppard, who does have the archetype to carve out a role somewhere on the professional level.

All things considered, Packers fans would probably prefer that the team addresses other areas of need, such as cornerback and edge rusher.
