Pair apparent: The most famous sports twins of all time

Twins have made their mark on the sports world over the years. These 30 pairs of sports twins have wowed us the past, present, and in some cases, into the future.

Herbert and Wilfred Baddeley

The Baddeley twins won four doubles championships at Wimbledon from 1891-1896. Wilfred also won the singles title at Wimbledon three times.

Ronde and Tiki Barber

The Barber twins had terrific NFL careers while playing different positions. Ronde played 16 seasons as a defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making five Pro Bowls and one Super Bowl in his Hall of Fame career. Tiki played 10 seasons at running back for the New York Giants, making the Pro Bowl in each of his final three seasons. The twins were also teammates at Virginia, and both now have media careers following their NFL playing days.

Teammates at Illinois, Chase and Sydney were both drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. Chase, a running back, was a fifth-round pick by the Bengals after rushing for over 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. Sydney plays safety and was a third-round pick by the Eagles.

The Bryan brothers are known as the most successful men's doubles tennis duo ever. Bob won 16 men's Grand Slam doubles titles, while twin brother Mike won 18 titles.

Jose Canseco is remembered for his accomplished 17-year MLB career as an outfielder with 462 career home runs, as well as his post-career steroids admission. Twin brother Ozzie was also an MLB outfielder but appeared in only three seasons from 1990-1993.

The Griffin twins were defensive stars on the UCF football team, and have each made their mark in the NFL. Both started their careers with the Seahawks. Shaquill is entering his seventh season at cornerback, now with Houston. Shaquem played linebacker and special teams with Seattle in three seasons from 2018-2020, and also played on Miami's practice squad in 2021. His athletic accomplishments are remarkable, as his left hand was amputated at age four.

Former gymnasts for the US gymnastics team, the Hamm twins have accomplished Olympic careers. Paul won one gold and two silvers at the 2004 Athens Olympics, while Morgan also won one silver at the 2004 games.

The Harrison twins won gold on the same 4x400 meter track and field relay team in the 2000 Olympics. However, they were each stripped of gold after teammate Antonio Pettigrew admitted to PED use. Alvin Harrison also won a silver medal in the 400 meter race.

Henrik Lundqvist is known as the long-time goalie for the New York Rangers, playing 15 seasons from 2005-2020. He was a two-time All-Star and won the Vezina Trophy in 2011-2012. Twin brother Joel appeared in only three NHL seasons as a center forward, playing with Dallas from 2006-2009.

The Mahre twins have three Olympic medals in alpine skiing between them. Phil won silver in slalom in 1980 and gold in 1984, while Steve claimed silver in slalom in 1984. They each have a gold medal at the World Championships, as well.

The Rogers twins have had excellent careers as MLB relief pitchers. The left-handed Taylor has spent time with the Twins, Padres, Brewers, and Giants, including two seasons with 30-plus saves. The submarining right-handed Tyler has been a high-leverage reliever with San Francisco since 2019. The twins joined forces in San Francisco after Taylor signed as a free agent in 2023.

The Ryan twins never played in the NFL, but they made their marks as coaches. The sons of defensive coaching legend Buddy Ryan, Rex was a long-time defensive coordinator who also had stints as the head coach of the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. Rob Ryan has been a coordinator and assistant for multiple teams, and won two Super Bowls on the sideline.

The Sedin twins had terrific NHL seasons, both playing 18 seasons. The twins played their entire careers in Vancouver, each with two All-Star appearances. Daniel led the league with 104 points in 2010-11. Henrik led the league with 112 points in 2009-2010 and also led the league in assists three times.

The Sutter twins come from the famous Sutter NHL family, with four other siblings appearing in the league and several pros in the following generation. Rich played 13 seasons, scoring 61 career goals. Ron had an even longer career, playing 19 seasons and scoring 137 career goals.

The Van Arsdale twins played college basketball together at Indiana from 1962-1965, followed by long NBA careers. Dıck played 12 seasons for the Knicks and Suns, averaging 16.4 points for his career, and making three All-Star appearances. Tom also played 12 seasons, averaging 15.3 points and making three All-Star appearances with five different franchises.

Rene and Willy van de Kerkhof

The van de Kerkhofs were teammates for the Dutch national soccer team in 1974 and 1978. Both also had excellent professional careers, with Willy scoring 71 goals as a midfielder and Rene scoring 141 goals as a right winger.
