The Milwaukee Brewers have emerged as a dynasty in the NL Central, on pace to win their fourth division title in five seasons. They currently own the league’s best record at 81–48 entering Saturday.
This success has come despite the team playing shorthanded, with Jackson Chourio and Joey Ortiz both currently on the injured list. The Brewers continue to find ways to win, even as their depth is tested.
During the bottom of the third inning in Friday’s 5–4 win over the San Francisco Giants, starting second baseman Brice Turang was drilled by a pitch in the wrist, prompting immediate concern. He remained in the game and reached base two more times, helping Milwaukee secure the victory.
Ahead of Saturday’s game, Turang was unexpectedly scratched after originally being placed in the starting lineup. Manager Pat Murphy explained that Turang was penciled in automatically, but after a batting cage session, the team determined he wasn’t ready to go.
"Brice Turang is 'touch and go' today after being hit by a pitch on the wrist last night. He’s tentatively in the lineup and is swinging in the cage now, Pat Murphy said, to assess whether he can play," wrote MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

Turang has been a defensive anchor over his three big-league seasons, earning a Gold Glove Award last year. He’s also taken a step forward offensively in 2025, posting a career-best 118 OPS+, .286 batting average, 14 home runs, and 64 RBIs through 124 games.
His unavailability is a concern for Milwaukee, especially with the postseason approaching. Turang’s ability to provide stability on both sides of the ball makes him a crucial piece of the Brewers’ playoff blueprint.
