The New England Patriots selected LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell at fourth overall in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Their next pick was at 38th overall, and they selected Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson.

During the Patriots' post-draft press conference after day two, Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf revealed the thought process from the front office on their selection at 38th overall.

"There were some really good conversations about our first pick, there was a little bit of a debate about who we were going to pick, ultimately one of the players that we were talking about got drafted, so it didn't end up mattering, but I think it was a really good step in the right direction just for us working together and our relationship."

The quote from Wolf is interesting, as he is alluding to a player the Patriots were considering at 38th overall in the second round. There were five players selected before the Patriots selected Henderson, and one of those five was up for debate at 38th overall.

The Cleveland Browns selected linebacker Carson Schwesinger from UCLA, followed by the Houston Texans picking wide receiver Jayden Higgins from Iowa State. Seattle was next, with the Seahawks choosing safety Nick Emmanwori from South Carolina.

Back on the clock, the Browns picked Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins, while the Miami Dolphins traded up for offensive guard Jonah Savaiinaea.

Of the players picked ahead of the Patriots, one of them was in consideration for the Patriots at 38th overall. The most likely picks would be on offense, and with the offensive line solidified with the Campbell pick, Higgins or Judkins are the most likely players Wolf was referring to.

The Patriots added Judkins fellow Ohio State running back, at pick 38, and grabbed wide receiver Kyle Williams down the board. Whether it was Higgins or Judkins, either would've been viewed as a great pick just as Henderson is.

New England landed one of the best running backs in the draft at pick 38, and while they were considering other options that got selected before their pick, the Patriots walked away happy from their second-round selection.
