The White Out tradition returned in full force at Beaver Stadium, with fans flooding the stands in white and anticipation building ahead of Penn State’s clash with Oregon. While the focus was on one of the most pivotal games of the season, a different kind of highlight stole the show, a heartfelt proposal that unfolded right on campus and made its way to ESPN College GameDay.
The moment blended perfectly with the energy surrounding University Park. Penn State alumni Aiden and Ally became engaged in front of Old Main, the iconic symbol of campus life. In an interview with ESPN College Football, Ally recalled their journey together, “We met here back in 2018. We’ve been dating for seven years, and we started our love story here at Penn State. When I was a sophomore, Aiden was a junior,” she said to ESPN College Football. Aiden further let us in on why to engage on this particular day. The answer rolled off his tongue, a true Nittany Lion. He had to make a big surprise, and what else could be the biggest thing happening at the University Park besides the clash against Oregon?
“It’s the biggest game of the year,” Aiden replied. “I had to do this game. I knew I wanted to do it at the Whiteout.” The Penn State experience was a major part of his decision. Ally further wishes that GameDay keep coming back to the campus in the future, continuing the White Out tradition. “And hope game day keeps coming, and it’s wonderful,” she said. “You know, we’re going to now go to Penn State games for the rest of our lives.”
Undoubtedly, this is one of the biggest games for James Franklin and the roster. ESPN analyst Desmond Williams is of the opinion that Penn State’s schedule is merely a two-game schedule. The only challenging opponents it will face are Oregon and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
