Penn State is a finalist for a four-star Class of 2025 DL.

Early Wednesday evening, it was announced that PSU is in the final six for Jarquez Carter, a 6-foot-2, 284-pound DL from Florida’s Newberry High School.

Penn State is in the mix along with Central Florida, Florida, Florida State Miami and Ohio State.

So to land Carter, Penn State will have to fend off four schools in Carter’s home state as well as a Big Ten rival. Of the Florida schools in the running, UCF is by far the closest to Newberry at roughly 40 minutes.

Carter has an official visit to Penn State scheduled for the weekend of June 7. He also has one scheduled to Florida for the last weekend of May and Central Florida scheduled for the weekend of June 14. Carter last visited Penn State March 19 during the spring season. PSU offered him last May.

Carter talked about his latest visit with Lions247.

“What (stood out) was the d-line,” Carter said, “and how they attack from the front of the defense and how they are always in the backfield making sacks and tackles for loss.”

“Most d-linemen just sit back and let the linebackers make plays. They let their linemen get in the backfield and make plays and it’s kind of like my high school defense.

Carter also spoke highly of Penn State DL coach Deion Barnes.

“I like him,” Carter said. “He’s a young coach so he understands the players’ style more than probably anybody on the coaching staff. He’s just a cool person to be around and a cool person to learn from.”
