One of the top Class of 2025 offensive linemen has Penn State as a finalist.

Jaylen Gilchrist, a 6-foot-6, 320-pounder from Salem High School in Virginia Beach, has Penn State in his top seven along with Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Gilchrist has been on Penn State’s radar for a while.

PSU offered him in May 2022. Along with his top seven, he has offers from schools such as Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and USC.

247Sports has Gilchrist as the No. 3 OL prospect in the country from his class as well as the No. 3 overall player in Virginia and the No. 82 overall player nationally.

Penn State currently has two offensive linemen committed to its Class of 2025, with three-star OT Owen Alience (Avon Old Farms) announcing his commitment in late January and IOL Michael Troutman (Wayne, New Jersey) announced his commitment weeks later. Under OL coach Phil Troutwein, Penn State’s been building up its quality in OL commits in recent years. This past recruiting cycle, Penn State signed four OL, including Cooper Cousins, an in-state product from McDowell who has a chance to start as a true freshman.

In the Class of 2023, Penn State’s two highest-rated commits, J’ven Williams (Wyomissing) and Alex Birchmeier (Ashburn, Virginia) were OL. The success of former PSU left tackle Oliver Fashanu, who signed to the Class of 2020 and is slated to be a top 15 draft choice later this month, also hasn’t hurt.

247Sports’ lone Crystal Ball projection has Gilchrist committing to South Carolina. He has an official visit there scheduled for the last weekend of May.
