Penn State Football Opens as Massive Favorite vs. West Virginia

College football teams just finished spring practice, and summer camp and fall games are still a few months away, but that has not stopped the sports betting world from looking forward to games this fall. For Penn State Football, the opener at West Virginia is circled on calendars throughout the Lasch Building and across the Keystone State.

One season removed from a relatively easy 38-15 week one win for Penn State against WVU in Happy Valley last September, the Nittany Lions will once again play the Mountaineers to open the 2024 season, this time on the road in Morgantown.

Despite finishing a very respectable 9-4 in 2023, at least one sports betting site is not giving the Mountaineers much of a chance to start the season off with a win against what should be a top 10 Nittany Lions squad in Week 1.

DraftKings Sportsbook opened the line for the week one tilt between the Mountaineers and the Nittany Lions Tuesday, setting Penn State as a 12.5 point favorite for the contest.

Penn State vs. West Virginia figures to be one of the more anticipated matchups of college football’s opening weekend, and the Lions are prohibitive road favorites in the early line.

Can Penn State Football Hit The ‘Over’ in 2024?

In 2023, Penn State Football went 9-3 against the spread, failing to cover in any of the Nittany Lions three losses last season.

The Nittany Lions did hit the over on win total for 2023, surpassing the 9.5 total regular season wins by a half-game. In 2024, Penn State once again has a 9.5 total regular season wins line in the new look Big Ten and is favored against WVU (the only game with a spread set so far).
