Pete Carroll Takes Playful Jab at Ashton Jeanty Stance Debate

Throughout his playing career at Boise State, Ashton Jeanty's pre-snap stance became very popular. His "Michael Myers stance" showed him standing up relatively straight before the snap, where most running backs are typically squatted a bit lower.

Jeanty recently revealed to Kay Adams that Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has already told the running back that he'd like him to switch to a more traditional stance.

This has already stirred some controversy amongst the fan base. Why try to fix what isn't broken?

Jeanty is going to listen to his coach, but he did mention that he hopes to convince Kelly eventually.

Head coach Pete Carroll heard some of the noise around the stand controversy and took a playful jab at the whole conversation.

“I really like that stance he’s in,” a smiling Carroll said during a Wednesday press conference. “He’s doing great. He really is. He’s right on point with everything that we’re doing. He’s studying really hard. He’s been really diligent about all aspects. There’s nothing that he doesn’t find important. He’s going to work hard on his pass protection and his third-down work and see if he can contribute in that kind of role, as well. We’re not holding anything back on him.”

Jeanty's stance isn't going to make or break his rookie season. It clearly worked for him in college, but in Kelly's defense, all the best running backs in NFL history utilized a more traditional stance. The AFC West is a far different beast than the Mountain West.
