Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Matt Strahm has established himself as a standout reliever, and he made his first All-Star team last year. He is also known for looking an awful lot like actor Nicolas Cage.
Strahm is not only aware of his resemblance to Cage, but he is eagerly leaning into it. On Wednesday, he debuted a new glove that features the Declaration of Independence on it. The glove is a nod to Cage’s famous role in the 2004 film “National Treasure,” in which Cage’s character is tasked with stealing the document.
“I stole it, then made a glove out of it,” Strahm joked.

Leaning into the Cage jokes is one thing. Going the extra mile and getting a Cage-themed glove is just outstanding work.
Strahm is well on his way to making a name for himself in his own right. He enters play Wednesday with a 1.08 ERA in nine appearances this season, and posted a 1.87 ERA last season in a setup role. The 33-year-old journeyman has developed into a vital part of Philadelphia’s bullpen. All that is great, but the Cage jokes are just icing on the cake.
Interestingly, Cage once bestowed some luck on another MLB team instead. Strahm might not need the boost, but perhaps he could take his game to another level if someone can get the two of them photographed together.
