PHOENIX — Phoenix Rising head coach Pa–Modou Kah, goalkeeper Triston Henry, and defender Braxton Montgomery sat with media this afternoon to discuss Sunday’s win against San Antonio FC.
Rising’s Victory on Sunday
Rising won 2-1, securing its first 2025 season victory and Kah’s first as head coach with Rising. The win also gave Kah USL week 5 honors, and he was named Coach of the Week. When asked about the honor, Kah said this honor goes all around.
“It’s for the staff and the players,” Kah said. “It’s nice to get it, but without the players, I don’t get it.”
When asked if there was a different approach to San Antonio, Kah said they kept it the same. He noted that the team showed maturity during the match and also leading up to it. The club arrived in San Antonio at 12:30 a.m. local time, with the game in the afternoon.
Montgomery, who has been given more time to play due to the many injuries on Rising, was asked about what worked well on Saturday’s game. He said communication amongst the group played a crucial role.
“I think our communication was on point, and we started the game really well,” Montgomery told reporters.
Henry tells the media that it felt good to get the first win of the season and propel Rising forward. However, he’s now focused on their next match this Saturday.
“The game on Saturday is the most important,” Henry said. “So we’re allowed to put that behind us and focus on the next one now.”

Looking ahead to Saturday
Rising now looks to add a second win to the year as it hosts Detroit City FC this Saturday. Henry believes communication is the way to replicate another win like Sunday’s.
“I think as from the guys in front to just limiting the the stupid fouls we were giving away in dangerous areas,” Henry explained. “I think that will help us. Really just playing at our own pace.”
When asked about the differences, Rising will show against Detroit City compared to San Antoinio, Kah said the focus is still the same.
“[Detroit] is a well-organized team,” he said. “But for us, it’s a two-different team. We’re going to still continue to focus on what we can improve daily with our players. And they’re going to present a different matchup, which we’re looking forward to as well.”
Phoenix Rising and Detroit City will face off this Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m.
