As the action of the inaugural AUSL Cup is underway in North Carolina, the crowds have shown up in full force with back-to-back sellouts at Ting Stadium. On Sunday afternoon, the crowd watched two teams captained by pitchers in Georgina Corrick (Team Purple) and Lexi Kilfoyl (Team Orange). That being said, here is a recap of Game Three of the AUSL Cup.
What’s more, Kilfoyl’s squad added to their lead with a two-run home run off the bat of Erin Coffel in the sixth inning. Team Orange stays undefeated with the 4-1 victory.
In the case, the duo of Sarah Willis and Taylor McQuillin helped keep the bats of Corrick’s team at bay. Willis went five innings, allowing three hits with an earned run and a strikeout, getting MVP 1 honors. Additionally, McQuillin threw the final two innings as she allowed two hits while striking out two, earning her first save of the AUSL Cup.
Iakopo won MVP 2 honors with her two RBIs as Coffel was the MVP 3 thanks to her two-run homer. As for Defensive MVP, that honor went to infielder Paige Sinicki of Team Purple.
